1.  *     (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,     He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away.     سورة عبسى بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ عبس وتولى     swr+ `bsi bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? `bs wtwli
 
2.  *     Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).     When the blind man came to him.     ان جاءه الاعمى     an ja'h ala`mi
 
3.  *     But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-     How do you know? He may purify himself.     ومايدريك لعله يزكى     wmaydryk l`lh yzki
 
4.  *     Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?     Or he may take heed, and benefit from the message.     او يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى     aw yXkr ftnf`h alXkri
 
5.  *     As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,     As for the rich man.     اما من استغنى     ama mn astGni
 
6.  *     To him dost thou attend;     You gave him your attention.     فانت له تصدى     fant lh tSdi
 
7.  *     Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).     Even though you could not guarantee his salvation.     وماعليك الا يزكى     wma`lyk ala yzki
 
8.  *     But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,     The one who came to you eagerly.     واما من جاءك يسعى     wama mn ja'k ys`i
 
9.  *     And with fear (in his heart),     And is really reverent.     وهو يخشى     whw yK$i
 
10.  *     Of him wast thou unmindful.     You ignored him.     فانت عنه تلهى     fant `nh tlhi
 
11.  *     By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:     Indeed, this is a reminder.     كلا انها تذكرة     kla anha tXkr+
 
12.  *     Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.     Whoever wills shall take heed.     فمن شاء ذكره     fmn $a' Xkrh
 
13.  *     (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,     In honorable scriptures.     في صحف مكرمة     fy SHf mkrm+
 
14.  *     Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,     Exalted and pure.     مرفوعة مطهرة     mrfw`+ mThr+
 
15.  *     (Written) by the hands of scribes-     (Written) by the hands of messengers.     بايدي سفرة     baydy sfr+
 
16.  *     Honourable and Pious and Just.     Who are honorable and righteous.     كرام بررة     kram brr+
 
17.  *     Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah.     Woe to the human being; he is so unappreciative!     قتل الانسان مااكفره     qtl alansan maakfrh
 
18.  *     From what stuff hath He created him?     What did He create him from?     من اي شئ خلقه     mn ay $Y Klqh
 
19.  *     From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;     From a tiny drop, He creates him and designs him.     من نطفة خلقه فقدره     mn nTf+ Klqh fqdrh
 
20.  *     Then doth He make His path smooth for him;     Then He points out the path for him.     ثم السبيل يسره     xm alsbyl ysrh
 
21.  *     Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;     Then He puts him to death, and into the grave     ثم اماته فاقبره     xm amath faqbrh
 
22.  *     Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).     When He wills, He resurrects him.     ثم اذا شاء انشره     xm aXa $a' an$rh
 
23.  *     By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.     He shall uphold His commandments.     كلا لما يقض ماامره     kla lma yqD maamrh
 
24.  *     Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):     Let the human consider his food!     فلينظر الانسان الى طعامه     flynZr alansan ali T`amh
 
25.  *     For that We pour forth water in abundance,     We pour the water generously.     انا صببنا الماء صبا     ana Sbbna alma' Sba
 
26.  *     And We split the earth in fragments,     Then we split the soil open.     ثم شققنا الارض شقا     xm $qqna alarD $qa
 
27.  *     And produce therein corn,     We grow in it grains.     فانبتنا فيها حبا     fanbtna fyha Hba
 
28.  *     And Grapes and nutritious plants,     Grapes and pasture.     وعنبا وقضبا     w`nba wqDba
 
29.  *     And Olives and Dates,     Olives and palms.     وزيتونا ونخلا     wzytwna wnKla
 
30.  *     And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees,     A variety of orchards.     وحدائق غلبا     wHdaYq Glba
 
31.  *     And fruits and fodder,-     Fruits and vegetables.     وفاكهة وابا     wfakh+ waba
 
32.  *     For use and convenience to you and your cattle.     To provide life support for you and your animals.     متاعا لكم ولانعامكم     mta`a lkm wlan`amkm
 
33.  *     At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-     Then, when the blow comes to pass.     فاذا جاءت الصاخة     faXa ja't alSaK+
 
34.  *     That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,     That is the day when one flees from his brother.     يوم يفر المرء من اخيه     ywm yfr almr' mn aKyh
 
35.  *     And from his mother and his father,     From his mother and father.     وامه وابيه     wamh wabyh
 
36.  *     And from his wife and his children.     From his spouse and children.     وصاحبته وبنيه     wSaHbth wbnyh
 
37.  *     Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.     Each one of them, on that day, worries about his own destiny.     لكل امرئ منهم يومئذ شان يغنيه     lkl amrY mnhm ywmYX $an yGnyh
 
38.  *     Some faces that Day will be beaming,     Some faces on that day will be happy.     وجوه يومئذ مسفرة     wjwh ywmYX msfr+
 
39.  *     Laughing, rejoicing.     Laughing and joyful.     ضاحكة مستبشرة     DaHk+ mstb$r+
 
40.  *     And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,     Other faces, on that day, will be covered with misery.     ووجوه يومئذ عليها غبرة     wwjwh ywmYX `lyha Gbr+
 
41.  *     Blackness will cover them:     Overwhelmed by remorse.     ترهقها قترة     trhqha qtr+
 
42.  *     Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.     These are the wicked disbelievers.     اولئك هم الكفرة الفجرة     awlYk hm alkfr+ alfjr+
